Watch out for this one!

If anything he has has the address 4370 NE Halsey, RUN! That building was demolished in 2007!

I had a furnace installed by this guy in 2009. It took almost a year to get most of my money back, and this was only after contacting the CCB. I had the furnace installed in March, 2009, filed a complain in June 2009, and didn't get a final check until January 2010.

By the way, to file a complaint with the CCB against a contractor, you must first send a registered letter to them saying you are filing a complaint in 30 days. You must keep a copy of the letter and proof that you sent it via registered mail, and send this with the complaint to the CCB. Without this, the CCB will not even try to help you.

He installed the wrong size furnace.

He installed the furnace incorrectly (and didn't know he did until I showed him the installation manual). He would not fix the problem until the RUUD representative told him I was right.

He installed the thermostat wrong, then disconnected a wire to hide the fact. After the final fix, he then lied and said the wiring was defective from the factory. The pictures I have that show his initial installation show another story.

When they replaced the flex-duct in the attic (during one of the dozen or so visits to fix the installation), they scooped up insulation into the flex-duct then ran the furnace without the filter in place, blowing insulation into every room of my house. I had to get the ductwork professionally cleaned after he did this.

He violated county building codes (and didn't know he did). The inspector made him do the changes, even though he didn't think he needed to do them. In fact, he argued with me about some of the fixes and said he didn't have to do them.

He ended up failing inspection twice. The first time was after calling the county and requesting a re-inspection (they didn't take a whole lot of time on the first one). After given a list of the fixes that were required, he failed to fix them all, and failed a second time. By the time the third inspection came around, he fixed most (but not all) of the items.

He violated contract laws. He only put his CCB license number on the contract because I requested it. He had a non-existant address on the contract. He didn't give me all the consumer notifications required with a contract (that was the one fine that the CCB levied - I have no idea why he didn't get more, espacially with the obvious fraud he committed).

The contract had an old address for his business, that was demolished more than 2 years before I signed the contract. I didn't find this out until I tried to find out why he wasn't sending the check. I was going to drive by his business to see if he was actually in town, but couldn't find the address. It turns out the building was demolished to put in a medical center.

He violated federal law by removing the yellow EnergyGuide sticker to hide the fact that the furnace he installed wasn't fuel efficient enough to qualify for the $1500 rebate (I got $154 credit due to the blower, but nothing for the furnace itself).

He didn't send the refund required by the CCB on time. I didn't get the check until 90 days after the check was supposed to be delivered.

I suggest contacting the CCB to get a copy of the CCB reports. Unfortunately, the file for my claim (which is listed as settled) may be too expensive to have mailed to you. If they kept everything I sent them, they have probably 100 pages or more, and they charge by the page. However, the CCB report for the claim that he lost only costs about $20 to get (not nearly as many pages).

Had I taken the time to get the first CCB report, I would not have hired him. I had asked Ted what the claim was about, and he said it was because a customer was refusing to pay, and going through the CCB was the only way he could get his money from the customer.

Once again, BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!
